LawCare

LawCare is the Law Society of NSW's confidential counselling service. It aims to help members deal with personal and professional problems that interfere with their work performance and personal life.

A counsellor is available to discuss any personal problem currently affecting your work performance, or threatens to do so in the future. Problems may include anxiety or stress related conditions, alcoholism, drug abuse, gambling addiction, a family or marriage crisis, or career problems.

LawCare can all assist your family with a wide range of problems.

LawCare counselling is provided by GPs experienced in dealing with the unique difficulties faced by professionals.. You may choose from male or female counsellors.

Initial assessment and referrals by phone are free of charge. Costs will only be incurred for face-to-face consultations and much of this can be claimed back through Medicare or private health cover for clinically relevant medical conditions.

BarCare

BarCare is an independent professional counselling service designed to assist members of the NSW Bar manage emotional and stress-related problems, such as marital breakdowns, drug or alcohol dependency and practice pressures.

BarCare is available to all members of the Bar Association and their immediate families. If a member requires assistance, he or she is encouraged to contact Penny Johnston, Director, Care and Assistance, to arrange an appointment for a consultation. She may be contacted on (02) 9331 3872 or email pjohnston@barcare.org.

Alternatively Barristers and their families seeking assistance can directly contact one of the panel specialists listed on the web site to make an appointment for a consultation.

The Lawyers Assistance Program (LAP) is a free and confidential counselling service for solicitors suffering from stress, depression or other personal difficulties. By contacting LAP you initially speak in confidence with a trained coordinator, who is also an experienced solicitor.

In addition to offering a sympathetic, yet impartial ear, the coordinator may also point you in the direction of suitable counsellors, agencies or schemes such as LawCare for further assistance. To speak with the LAP coordinator call 1800 777 662.

Work2Suit is an information and support network for solicitors who are working, or seeking to work, flexibly. Flexible work options may include part-time or job-share arrangements, and working from home.
